Registration for Nationals begins in the spring.
At Nationals, the US Academic Bee is a buzzer-based quiz competition for individual students. Students compete against other students in a series of rounds where they attempt to be the first to ring in and answer paragraph-length questions about various topics. Each correct answer results in one point. If they reach 8 points, they are then finished for the round, but they earn up to 7 bonus points based on how quickly they reached 8 points. Students who finish high enough in preliminary round totals qualify for the finals to determine the National Champion.
