Many consider the SkillsUSA Championships to be the preeminent showcase of public technical education in the United States. The championships recognize career and technical students who excel in their occupational and occupationally related areas, as well as in the leadership development activities that are such an integral part of the SkillsUSA program in the classroom.
The SkillsUSA Championships are competitive events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.
Through an investment from business and industry partners of approximately $36 million, the event occupies a space equivalent to 20 football fields. In 2018, there were more than 6,500 contestants in 103 separate events. Nearly 2,000 judges and contest organizers from labor and management make the national event possible.
The philosophy of the Championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.
SkillsUSA offers many opportunities for growth through competitions. There are many competition opportunities available through SkillsUSA membership. Within the SkillsUSA Championship series there are numerous categories in which students can compete. Students can compete at the local or state level. State winners go on the national competition: The SkillsUSA Championships in Louisville, Ky. Other contests include the WorldSkills Competition, the opportunity to design the National Leadership and Skills Conference Pin and the chance to have your photography published in SkillsUSA Champions magazine.
