The Central New Mexico Science Olympiad is a team competition. Its mission is to improve the quality of K-12 science, technology, engineering, and math education throughout the region. Awards are given to the students who place 1st-4th in each individual event.
Teams normally send 2 students to compete in particular events. Then, at the end of the competition, the teams with the top three highest cumulative scores are awarded trophies. Several middle and high school teams then qualify from this competition to participate in the NM State Science Olympiad (http://www.nmt.edu/~science/olympiad) which is an affiliate of the National Science Olympiad (http://www.soinc.org).
