The Made By Milk™ contest encourages students to build strong bones with milk and flex their creative muscles by repurposing milk cartons. The winning team can earn its school up to $5,000. Just collect your school’s milk cartons and use them to create a piece of art that fits the semester’s theme. Teams must also submit essays with their art.

Students re-purpose their school’s empty milk and juice cartons into a Sports-themed creation! Football goal post, race car, bicycle, Olympic rings, trophies, baseball diamond replica, luge track, canoe race, snack bar, basketball, horse-riding, hockey arena, archery post, snorkeling – any representation of sports you find!

The winning team can earn its school up to $5,000. Just collect your school’s milk cartons and use them to create a piece of art that fits the semester’s theme Assemble your team of students (suggestions: an art class, a home room, etc.), and determine what you’d like to build. Then gather supplies, assign tasks to students and make it!

After your students assemble their creation, snap a few photographs of the finished product (without students in the photo) and write an essay (200 or fewer words) about what makes your entry unique. Consider what inspired your students, what sustainability lessons were taught throughout the project, and anything else that will make your entry stand out to the judges. You will need the photos and essay to complete the entry form. Then your school’s sponsor uploads the entry to our website by the specified date. Sponsor must be 18 years or older.

The following criteria will be used when judging the carton creations:
  • Compliance / Rules: theme appropriate, supporting materials are a small percentage of the creation and are natural, renewable
  • Creativity / Originality: unique, distinguishing itself from the other entries yet clearly made of intact cartons
  • Decorations: plentiful and are supportive of the concept of the creation
  • Level of Detail
  • Green Initiative: Your emphasis on sustainability throughout your project
