The International Geography Championships is a celebration of geography attended by some of the best young geography students from around the world, featuring numerous competitive and non-competitive events. The competition is designed to bring the top geography students from around the world together for an unforgettable week full of various competitions with a geography-based theme, and a chance to meet students with similar interests and talents from around the world.
- Numerous events are held, but only one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal will be distributed per event, per division.
- Citizens and residents of the USA will represent their state, not their country.
- There is no limit to the number of students per country or state who can qualify.
- Qualification is conducted through participation in International Geography Bee and US Geography Championships events, the National Championships of the IGB and USGC in the USA, and a qualifying exam for students outside the lower 48 states in the USA.
- The events of the IGC will be tailored to meet the requirements of a normally non-quantitative discipline such as geography.

Eligibility:
Middle and high school students internationally, but you must qualify.
Students can qualify for the 2022 International Geography Championship in 5 ways:

<li>Qualifying through International Geography Bee – Outside the USA</li>
<li>Qualifying through the International Geography Bee and US Geography Championships – Inside the USA</li>
<li>Qualifying from areas over 200km from a NHBB or IHBB tournament site through a Qualifying Exam. Or qualify in Australia or New Zealand through the Qualifying Exam</li>
<li>Students competing in an IHBB Intramural tournament</li>
<li>Students who have medaled at a prior International Geography Championship</li>
</ol>
