Hack4Earth is a premier hackathon event cultivating the creative potential of young minds to ideate, innovate, and pave the way for a sustainable future through the power of technology. The event has been split up into two exciting categories, the “Hackathon” and the “Ideathon”, to provide a platform for designers, coders, artists, and storytellers to innovate for a brighter future. The Ideathon track challenges participants to unleash their creativity and pitch groundbreaking ideas that address pressing sustainability challenges in areas such as water and waste management, healthcare, and education. On the other hand, the Hackathon invites participants of all skill levels to bring their ideas to life by developing working software/hardware products that redefine our approach to bringing about a greener world. Both the Ideathon and Hackathon are open to all middle and high school students across the world. Thanks to our sponsors, we are able to offer prizes worth nearly $400 to all participants along with verifiable e-certificates; additionally, all winners and top performers will receive prizes worth thousands of dollars.
In the hackathon, participants are encouraged to harness their creativity to craft innovative impactful solutions that contribute to a more sustainable world. Tackle challenges such as water conservation, food/agriculture, smart cities, healthcare, and education with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as your guiding light: you are free to choose any challenge that you resonate with. Whether you’re developing a water use tracking app, waste marketplace platform, AI-powered recipe generator app, or any other application, your goal is to drive positive change in the environment and society at large through software and/or hardware. In the ideathon, we invite you to step into the role of an entrepreneur: your mission is to present a compelling product pitch that solves a sustainability-related challenge of your choice (inspiration can be found here). Your pitch could include a prototype/sketch, business model, and/or an idea that is feasible and supported by evidence. The ideathon empowers you to showcase your innovative ideas and propose creative solutions to address critical challenges in sustainability without building a product. In both categories, we will require a minimum of two deliverables: a video demonstrating your solution/a product pitch video and the code repository/folder/webpage link that judges can use to view the solution themselves.
- Include a video (no more than 3 minutes) that demonstrates your submission.
- Provide a URL to your code repository and a link to the webpage if you are deploying a website/web app.
- Create a video that is less than 2 minutes long, introducing the target problem and presenting your idea. Please visit our website or the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals website to spark ideas.
- Provide a link to your pitch presentation along with any supplementary materials (sketches and/or a business plan)
