Esri challenges US students to conduct and share projects about something in their home state. Esri's 2022 ArcGIS Online Competition is open to high school and middle school students in participating states in the US who can gather, create, analyze, interpret, and present data via an ArcGIS StoryMap. States have to present their data to Esri by May 18, 2022. Final results will be announced May 31, 2022.

  1. Students in grades 4-12, in teams of 1 or 2, do a custom project, then create an ArcGIS StoryMap about their project, and submit it to school.
  2. Teachers at each school choose the school's 5 best and submit them to the state.
  3. States pick their 5 best high school entries and 5 best middle school entries, award $100 to each, pick 1 of each 5 for the national competition, and send info on all 10 teams to Esri. The top team from each category creates a video.
  4. Esri chooses 1 middle school and 1 high school entry for top honors, makes a participation map featuring all state winners.
  5. The top high school and top middle school team are featured in a special webinar!
