The California Recycling Challenge is a friendly competition and benchmarking tool for K-12 school recycling programs to promote waste reduction activities to their school communities. Over a one month period, schools report recycling and trash data which are then ranked according to who collects the largest amount of recyclables per capita, the largest amount of total recyclables or have the highest recycling rate.
Competition Process
Participants will be able to select one of three levels of participation through the Single Stream Mixed Recyclables, the Six Target Materials and Two Combined Organics and Dry Recyclables categories to encourage participation for those who may not be ready to submit full documentation of their diversion numbers.Judging Criteria
To compete in the California K-12 Schools Recycling Challenge schools must complete the online registration form. Report Results Weekly: Schools must enter their numbers weekly using the online competition reporting form. Upon registering, each school is assigned its own Data Entry form.
