The Global Challenge competition engages high school students in addressing critical challenges within the realms of food security, sustainability, and agriculture, and their significant impacts on topics like health, nutrition, education, employment, and safety. Participants are encouraged to conduct thorough research, perform in-depth analysis, and present their findings and innovative solutions to these complex issues. This initiative is designed not only to enhance participants' understanding of global problems but also to cultivate an inclusive learning community where all students are able to share insights, learn from their peers, and grow their skills and experience. By emphasizing global awareness and deeper understanding of these complex issues, the competition aims to prepare young individuals to contribute meaningfully to addressing food insecurity and sustainability issues, thereby nurturing the next generation of leaders and problem solvers.
Competition Process
In the Global Challenge, students set out on an enlightening path to tackle pressing global issues through in-depth research. They are tasked with crafting a 3-5 page research paper on critical topics such as plants, water scarcity, renewable energy, climate change, agriculture, sustainability, climate change, or malnutrition, with a special emphasis on their effects on food security. This exploration requires selecting a country other than their own to investigate, with the goal of identifying and proposing viable solutions to the significant challenges discovered in their research. Following this, students will participate in the WFPF Virtual Youth Institute live via an online platform, where they will present a 3-minute lightning talk, sharing the highlights and solutions from their research. This segment of the competition is designed to ignite passion and interest in this crucial area, potentially guiding students towards a future career path in addressing global food security challenges.Judging Criteria
