CBL Product Proposal Challenge

Competition-based learning (or challenge-based learning, CBL) can be daunting for coaches to embark on large-scale. Starting with a classroom, a grade-level, or whole-school scale and scaffolding the process makes jumping into a regional, national, or international competition more manageable.

One of the benchmarks of CBL is to make learning engaging and fun! The community building aspect of this Product Pitch Challenge allows students to engage in competition where the prize benefits the whole group. In bringing in outside community members as judges, students gain presentation skills, engaging with judges, and receiving feedback.

This Product Pitch Challenge is versatile and can be easily modified for a variety of classrooms, clubs, or grade-level challenges. Suggested implementation timelines, topic constraints, and scaled formats are provided in this guide. Suggestions for recruiting outside judges and feedback forms and rubrics are provided in this guide.

Extensions and ideas for taking the next steps into regional, national and international challenges are provided at the end of the resource. Welcome to CBL – it is a worthwhile endeavor!
