How would you like to hone your camera skills in the field with National Geographic? Enter the National Geographic Student Photo Contest, and you could win a spot on one of our photography trips!

To be eligible for the Student Photo Contest, you must be at least 13 years old, enrolled in grades 7 through 12, and residing in the United States at the time of submission. To enter, upload up to five of your photos that capture the spirit of exploration into our online entry form. For each submission, write a short description (100 words or less) of the “moment” captured and how it reflects what exploration means to you.

Students take photos that capture the spirit of exploration and write a short description about the "moment" when it was captured.

Our panel of judges will evaluate each entry according to the following criteria:
  • Creativity (30%)
  • Photographic quality (30%)
  • Composition (30%)
  • Execution of theme—the spirit of exploration—through both the photograph and its written description (10%)

The judges will select up to 30 finalists, each of whom will be asked to submit a release form that allows their images to be used by National Geographic Student Expeditions. All 30 finalists will have their images featured on the National Geographic Student Expeditions website and will be eligible for the “People’s Choice” title, voted on by the general public. One grand prize winner will win a spot on the National Geographic Student Expeditions photography trip of their choice.
