The Harvard National High School Invitational Forensics Tournament, held in Cambridge each Presidents’ Day Weekend, is the largest and most prestigious high school debate tournament in the country, providing opportunities for students to compete in Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Student Congress, and a variety of individual and duo speech events.

High School Students can enter any of 5 tournament categories:

  1. Policy Debate
  2. Public Forum Debate
  3. Lincoln-Douglas Debate
  4. Student Congressional Debate
  5. Speech Tournament
Students prepare speeches and debate arguments in each of the categories and are pitched in head-to-head debate rounds against other teams. The deadline for Policy, Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, and Individual Events entries is February 10, 2020. The deadline for entry for Congressional Debate is January 15, 2020 at 6 p.m. EST, earlier than the rest of the tournament. We may reach capacity prior to entry deadlines, but will run waiting lists. You may wish to confirm waiting list status before making travel arrangements. The fees for your entry will be set by midnight February 13, 2020 except for Congress entries where the fees are set as of January 15, 2019. You will be responsible for paying the full entry fee for any entries dropped after that date.

Students are evaluated on the validity of their arguments and presentations. Each of the five tournament categories has different judging criteria. See the competition website for complete review criteria.
