Imagine yourself transported to the vibrant city of Philadelphia in 1916. The Black community in the 7th Ward has recently experienced a surge in economic self- sufficiency, thanks to the visionary leadership of David Snow. Recognizing the importance of political agency, Snow framed a challenge to ignite sustained growth and memorialize their progress. By preventing expressway plans that threatened their newfound prosperity, the community demonstrated its resilience during cyclical economic turbulence.

The existence of the Peoples' Savings Bank of Philadelphia (PSBP) that leveraged economic opportunity in the community had quietly amassed a substantial investment portfolio, unbeknownst to the greater public. The twelve most outspoken and esteemed mothers of the 7th Ward were entrusted with this treasure. Handpicked for their austere methods of raising large families, they underwent an intensive yearlong training program, immersing themselves in the intricacies of macro and microeconomics.

Students will reimagine a designated location in Philadelphia and submit their work to our team. Jurors will then choose the top projects.
