That’s what Future Problem Solving (FPS) offers students with their World Solutions Challenge.

The World Solutions Challenge is a global competition designed for students in grades 5 through 9—unique in both its relevancy and its flexibility. Young problem-solvers from around the world are invited to analyze a real-world issue and develop an action plan.

This competition is open now for registration! All students, regardless of prior experience or affiliation with FPS, are welcome to join via FPSOnline, a dynamic platform that guides students through the 6-part problem-solving process at their own pace, from anywhere they have access to a computer and internet connection.

2024 Topic: Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The 2024 World Solutions Challenge will focus on the theme of Generative AI (GenAI), engaging students in critical thought surrounding how artificial intelligence is shaping our lives—from work and school to entertainment.

Students will be tasked with evaluating the impact of this rapidly evolving technology and devising innovative solutions to address the issues it presents.

 

Competition Details:

• Two-Week Competition Window: Teams can work at their own pace.
• Teams of 2-4: All competitors participate in a single open division, regardless of team size.
• No Prior Experience Required: The World Solutions Challenge makes for an excellent entry point for new participants. The only requirement is for an adult to serve as the primary contact for registration and communication purposes. Adult coaching is optional!
• $100 Entry Fee: This covers access to all necessary materials and tools, including the online problem-solving platform and evaluation of the final submission.

 

FPSOnline

Participants use Future Problem Solving’s interactive virtual platform, FPSOnline, throughout the two-week challenge period. From there, students can:

• Complete event activities from anywhere in the world
• Collaborate with their teammates
• Access the competition toolkit—which includes a wide range of resources, such as a topic introduction, helpful learning resources, and videos.
• Engage with FPS’s 6-step problem solving process, getting the guidance they need for a successful submission

 

Awards and Experiential Opportunities for Top Teams

The top three winning teams in the World Solutions Challenge will receive free entry to the FPS Global Issues Competition! Allowing them to continue their problem-solving journey at a higher level.

Additionally, the first and second place teams will earn free registration for the 2025 International Conference at Indiana University, where they will collaborate with problem solvers from around the globe in MAGIC, FPS’s Multi-Affiliate Global Issues Competition.

The first-place team will also receive a $1,000 travel stipend, providing financial support for students to attend the event.

 

The World Solutions Challenge is a flexible, accessible, and exciting chance for students to gain experience investigating real-world issues, and to hone their problem-solving skills as they come up with solutions.
